On Sunday afternoon, Sep. 28, the Third Annual Wilderness Kids Music Festival was held at Pat Miller Square in Del Ray welcoming members of the community to raise money for the Wilderness Kids Organization. The organization provides resources for middle and high school students to participate in nature-enriching activities.
Local bands Redwood, Beachface, Mustard Tiger, The Derds, Czars of Leisure and Maysuns performed in support of the cause, all generating funds to go directly to the organization. Since 2022, Wilderness Kids has raised over $179,000.
Along with a vibrant musical lineup, the event featured activities like Cornhole, Ping Pong and a raffle to earn prizes and gift cards at local restaurants that sponsored the event.
One organizer of the fundraiser, Matt D’Anieri, stated, “The purpose of the Wilderness Kids is to get teens, middle schoolers, and high schoolers into nature through a bunch of different programs that we do and to get students who otherwise wouldn’t have that opportunity– as the outdoor education curriculum in Alexandria City Public Schools ends at 5th grade.”
