New Year, New TC

“My resolution is to let go of toxic people…and then detox with some more water–let this acne go as well,” said senior Kayla Harley.

With a new year comes new resolutions from T.C. students and predictions for the coming year. As seniors plan for college and their future, juniors dread college applications and SATs; as sophomores adjust to harder classes and the main campus, freshman are getting used to the high school experience; everyone has something to work on.

“My resolution for next year is to hopefully get into a good college,” says Eli Norman, a senior. “I’m thinking of either going to Hampton or Radford University.”

Sophomore Ben Janusz said, “I am most excited for playing more soccer and having colleges look at me.  I will be playing JV for another year, but our club team will be going to a bunch of college showcases all around the East coast.”

Story Everett, a junior, said, “I just hope that I will be able to better myself this year, and the bad things that happened in 2018–I will just let them go–and 2019 will be a fresh start for me…[I’m looking forward to] getting better grades.”

Junior CJ Chidlow, on the other hand, has very different goals. Chidlow said, “I want to convince all my friends to become vegan, every one of them.” Chidlow participates in a student organization called Project CURE (Community United for Renewable Energy). “We want to raise money for water bottle refilling stations [at T.C.].”  Their goal is $30,000 — “it’s very ambitious,” CJ says.

Sophomore Ty’Niah Carter wants to improve herself this year, saying, “My new year’s resolution is to help people in need and make this school a better place.”

Students have also formed many predictions for 2019.  Ahmed Eldawah, a senior, said, “My prediction for next year is that the world’s going to end. I’m thinking [one major cause could be] nuclear destruction probably, but global warming is a close second.”

“One prediction [I have for 2019] is Trump getting impeached,” said Tony Reese.

Although a lot of people end up not following through with new year’s resolutions, T.C. students in general think having a positive mindset walking into the new year is what is most important.
