TC Takes Districts by Land and Sea

Indoor Track & Field And Swim & Dive Dominate the Competition

T.C.’s Indoor Track & Field team was victorious at the Gunston District Championships, defending its title for a second year on February 9 and 10. 

Girls Shot Put phenom and sophomore, Wisdom Williams, grabbed first, winning with a mark of 40-05.75. 

David Coles put out an impressive display, coming first in the Long Jump and Triple Jump and third in the High Jump. He also was a member of the Boys 4x200m and 4x400m relays, which both placed second, qualifying them for Regionals. 

Eleven pole vaulters advanced to Regionals, with four boys and five girls in the top six. Senior Kalkidan Gebiso and freshman Madeline Crowe placed first. 

The girls Distance Team also performanced well, with six girls qualifying in the 1000m, 1600m and 3200m. 

The Glade Sisters dominated in the Girls 3200m with sophomore, Grace, finishing first and freshman, Katie Jane, finishing third. The two are expected to be ones to watch at the Regionals Championships; both with high hopes to qualify for states. 

The boys Distance Team moved on four of its athletes to compete at regionals. 

In the 500m, junior A’rai Hyman took first and freshman Morgan Fraser came in fourth for the girls. Senior Victor Vassallo got second, sophomore Hamid Sesay got third and senior Erik Jacobson got fifth for the boys. All will move onto Regionals. 

Junior Emma Reynolds had a busy, but successful meet at Districts. Reynolds won the girls 300m Dash, was a part of the girls 4x200m relay team that came in first, and was a part of the girls 4x400m relay that placed second. 

Swim and Dive competed at the Gunston Districts and District Finals meet on January 31 and February 1. Although it was a tough meet, the team placed second for both girls and boys. 

There were swimmers breaking times, allowing them to qualify for regionals and some even states within this meet. Every swimmer who qualified for the State meet broke team records and continued to make history for the swim and dive program 

For distance, sophomore Grey Bremer broke five minutes in his 500 yard freestyle. He was able to advance to regionals and states because of his time and getting first place in both the preliminary and district finals. 

Myla Rice, a junior and captain of the team, dropped time in the 100 yard backstroke, improving by 3.21 seconds. She also improved in two other events: the 200 yard medley relay and the 400 yard freestyle relay. 

Sophomore Emil Lasida was among one of the five members who broke team records. Along with his new record in the 100 yard butterfly, Lasida placed first in his 100 yard backstroke. 

The first place team for the girls 200 medley dropped time and recorded a team record with Rice, junior Abigail St. Jean, senior Lydia Greenwood, and sophomore Rachel Wilson. 

Junior Ronan Lauinger took on the 200IM and improved by an impressive 0.99 seconds and placed first in that event. 

The girls 400 freestyle relay, with Rice, Greenwood, Julia Lungren, and Wilson, placed first and set a new team record. 

In the boys 100 yard freestyle, junior Quinn Hardimon qualified for regionals and states. He was able to get 49.12 seconds and first place. 

The girls and boys divers performed well. Junior Henry Wiedemer placed fifth and earned 302.95 points in finals. Junior Leo Critchfield was awarded eighth place with 275.95 points overall for his finals score. 

Girls divers placed sixth, seventh, and eighth place. Junior Alinor Smith got sixth place and 197.60 points, sophomore Emily Townsend got seventh with 192.10, and freshmen Milan Rex got eight place with 185.75 points.
