On Thursday, October 28, 2021, the Alexandria City High School’s girls volleyball team won the District Championship match against West Potomac High School. The Titans beat the Wolverines in 3 thrilling sets. The first set ended with a score of 25-11, when the Titans pulled away from the Wolverines, convincingly.

The second set ended at 25-14, with A.C. still in the lead. With everyone on the edge of their seats, the Titans pulled out a close victory in the third set, 25-23.

The district championship match drew crowds of energetic friends, family, and fans that filled the bleachers. The Alexandria City Junior Varsity cheer team came to support the players in their District Championship victory.

The battle against the Wolverines came to an end when senior middle hitter Jill Jones smashed the ball into the ground with an assist from junior setter Chloe Wilmot. This last point ended the nail-biting third set and District Championship match.

After the game’s last point, teammates rushed to the court to celebrate their victory. They were seen jumping and screaming at center court. After the crowd calmed down a bit, the team lined up to receive their Patriot District Championship patches, which were distributed to them by the Athletic Director, James Parker.

At the end of the night, teammates and coaches mingled with friends and family, took pictures, and ate pizza to celebrate their triumph. The volleyball team will continue their journey to the Regional tournament next week.
