The NFL Season Opener is coming up on September 5th with the returning Super Bowl Champions the Kansas City Chiefs, playing the Baltimore Ravens in a high stakes game with two strong teams.
Starting with some Ravens players to lookout for, Derrick Henry is the Ravens newest signing from the Tennessee Titans. He’s an older running back but he has a long resume of being a strong runner. He’s often seen as unstoppable in a one-on-one tackle, however, due to his age people think he’s going to regress this year. That may be true statistically, however, he’s on a new team that has a much better offensive line and coaching staff that will support him and keep him as a high end running back. Another player to lookout for on offense is Zay Flowers, the Ravens top wide receiver. Last season he was a rookie and had 858 receiving yards, 77 receptions, 11.1 average yards, and 5 touchdowns. This season he’s bound to do better than he did last season due to having more experience with the team and getting a better connection with his quarterback Lamar Jackson. The Ravens don’t really have that many good options at wide receiver so this will open up many opportunities for Zay Flowers to capitalize on. Finishing with a defensive player, Kyle Hamilton the Ravens starting safety, he was a rookie two seasons ago and he was injured for the last 2 games of the season and the playoffs. Recently he hurt his hip in a practice against the Green Bay Packers nevertheless he has moved past this issue now and is ready to start the first game of the season. Last season he finished with 4 interceptions, and 1 touchdown. He has been a top safety in the league since he joined the NFL and is now looking to extend his success into this year.
Moving teams, the Chiefs also have some good players to lookout for. Xavier Worthy is the Chiefs new rookie wide receiver. He was previously the best wide receiver on the football team for the University of Texas. He had 1000 receiving yards, 75 receptions, and 5 touchdowns and the past two seasons before he had 9 touchdowns, and 12 touchdowns. He’s a deep threat and a playmaker that will fit the Chiefs play style. He will fit well with his quarterback Patrick Mahomes. Of course everyone knows Patrick Mahomes and how good he is but with the new players they signed at wide receiver, he is set to have another record breaking season. Every year Patrick Mahomes has been the starting quarterback he has had more than 4000 passing yards and 20 touchdown passes. In recent years he has had 10+ interceptions each year, however, that isn’t enough to diminish his passing and rushing stats. His legacy, and what he has accomplished leaves NFL fans watching for what he will do next every season for the past 6 years. The final player to lookout for is another offensive player, Isaiah Pacheco, their star running back. Last season he had 935 rushing yards and 244 receiving yards and 7 rushing touchdowns and 2 receiving touchdowns. The season before he had 830 rushing yards and 130 receiving yards and 5 rushing touchdowns. He’s due to get around 1000 rushing yards this season, 200 receiving yards, and 8-10 touchdowns.
Both teams look great on paper and have stars everywhere, however, we have to wait for them to play on the field to really see how successful they will be this season.
