The Titans boys basketball team is coming off a very impressive season last year with a record of 14-1 in the district and 19-7 overall. Their season ended with an unfortunate loss in the Occoquan Region semifinal game. Since then, the team has completely transformed: eight players graduated and two transferred to other schools.
“Our main challenge will be the lack of experience, as we have no returning starters and 11 new players on the roster, “ said Ty Sally, who is now entering his fourth year as head coach of the team.
Even with a new group, Sally still has full confidence in his team to show everyone what they can do.
“We have a solid core of players who are eager to compete, push each other, and improve as a team every day,” Sally said, emphasizing that he believes the team has a lot of heart. “Our biggest strength this season will be our defensive intensity. While we might not be the tallest team, we’ll make up for it with grit and determination.”
One player to look out for is senior Tarik Sesay, who is a force to be reckoned with on both offense and defense. He said he is feeling fresh and ready to go after everyone in his way.
“My personal goal is to win First Team all-District and Defense Player of the Year,” said Sesay.
Along with Sesay, junior TJ Proctor is playing on varsity for the first time.
“I’m really excited because it’s my first year on varsity, but it also brings a bit of pressure as I’m expected to do more as a player,” said Proctor.
Regardless of the pressure, he said he is still focused on becoming more consistent and improving on defense.
The Titans are 1-6 in their first seven games, however, don’t count them out yet.
