As the summer inches closer every day, seniors are officially signing off. Scholarships, college decisions and graduation mark the accomplishments of the graduating class. The events of Prom concluded on Saturday, and the final event for the class of 2025 is graduation at the end of the month.
As for scholarships, the 2025 recipients of the Scholarship Fund of Alexandria posed for their picture on April 11 in the King Street Campus gym.
The SFA awarded a total fund of $2,590,850 over a 4 year renewable value for students with financial need. For the 25-26 academic year, the recipients received a total of $690,400.
Since 1986, the SFA has helped thousands of students with the process of college planning, awarding more than $20 million in scholarships. The money is received by various fundraising events and the SFA is supported by a community of donors.
The gala and auction on April 26 provided another opportunity to donate and raise funds to continue the scholarships for Alexandria City High School students. In total, the gala raised $475,000.
The application process is universal and matches students to one of the 215 scholarships awarded. The minimum need-based scholarship is $3,000 and the individual amounts are unique to each recipient.
The application for SFA scholarships is open from November to January. After the applications close, the names are redacted for the review process. This ensures a fair opportunity for each student. Then, each redacted application is assessed by three different reviewers, with no ability for donors to weigh into the process.
The SFA scholarship isn’t the only available scholarship for ACHS students. There are many more scholarships available for students, such as FAFSA or CSS Profile. The SFA staff are available to students for any and all postsecondary assistance.
The last event for SFA is the awards ceremony on May 22 at 6:30 pm in the King Street auditorium.
