After months of grueling campaigns, results are finally in for Democrats, independents and Republicans vying for positions on the City Council and in Congress, the Senate and the White House. Here is what you need to know:
- Donald J. Trump (R) has defeated Kamala Harris (D) to win the presidency. Race called by the Associated Press.
- Harris has defeated Trump in Virginia, but those 13 electoral votes were not enough to push her to a win nationally. Race called by the Associated Press.
- Tim Kaine (Va.), the incumbent Democratic Senator, has defeated Republican Hung Kao. Race called by the Associated Press.
- Don Beyer (D-Va., 8th) has won reelection to the House of Representatives. He defeated one Republican and two independent opponents. Race called by the Associated Press.
- Alyia Gaskins (D) has been elected as Alexandria’s next mayor, Theogony projects. She ran unopposed.
- Sarah Bagley (D) will be Alexandria’s next vice mayor, Theogony projects. She placed first of all city council candidates.
