With Christmas around the corner, Alexandria City High School students are getting excited for winter break. The break begins Dec. 22, and with Alexandria expecting slightly above-average snowfall this month, many students say they are looking forward to time away from classes and a chance to relax. Theogony asked students what they are most excited about during the holidays, from spending time with family to enjoying winter traditions. Students also shared how they plan to spend their break and what they would change about winter break if they could.

Ruth Webetu– sophomore
Q: What are you most looking forward to for Christmas and winter break?
A: I’m looking forward to watching the new season of Stranger Things and spending time with my family.
Q: How are you going to spend your break?
A: I’m gonna spend my break with my family.
Q: If you could change one thing about winter break, what would it be and why?
A: I would add more days of no school because it needs to be longer.

Khalil Battle– junior
Q: What are you most looking forward to for Christmas and winter break?
A:That I’m able to have quality time on myself and sleep more.
Q: How are you going to spend your break?
A: I’m gonna spend my break staying inside doing stuff and getting work done and just chilling.
Q: If you could change one thing about winter break, what would it be and why?
If I could change something it would be that it gotta be so cold outside because I like the cold but it be too cold sometimes.

Gerbin Velasquez– senior
Q: What are you most looking forward to for Christmas and winter break?
A: What I’m most excited about Christmas is the presents and the food and what I’m looking forward to is finally catching a break from school.
Q: How are you going to spend your break?
A: I’m going to spend my break by just relaxing and sleeping and playing video games with my friends and spending time with my family.
Q: If you could change one thing about winter break , what would it be and why?
A: If I could change one thing about winter break is I would make it start earlier because I think that it starts way too late and we need at least a week before Christmas to process everything.

Christopher Hernandez– sophomore

A: I’m excited about the gifts and having no school.
Q: How are you going to spend your break?
A: I’m gonna play video games and maybe work more at my job.
Q: If you could change one thing about winter break, what would it be and why?
I would change winter break to the whole month of December because we need a break from school and a month is perfect.

Keiley Hernandez– sophomore

A: I’m most looking forward to no work and sleep.
Q: How are you going to spend your break?
A: Spending it with family and friends.
Q: If you could change one thing about winter break, what would it be and why?
A: I would change going back to school a day after because we stay up until midnight and won’t be able to function the next day.

Orly Amaya– sophomore
Q: What are you most looking forward to for Christmas and winter break?
A: I’m looking forward to the Christmas gifts because I know the presents are gonna be good this year.
Q: How are you going to spend your break?
I’m going to spend my break going to my girlfriend’s house.
Q: If you could change one thing about winter break, what would it be and why?
I would change winter break to the second week of December so we could have a week extra because that would be the perfect amount of time to relax before the break is over.

A: I’m excited about the feeling you get during Christmas.

A: I’m going to spend my break by picking up more shifts at my job.

If I could change something it would be us getting free gifts from the school with winter break.
Overall, students said winter break provides a much needed pause in the school year. Whether they plan to relax at home, spend time with loved ones or stay busy with work, many agreed the time off is needed before returning to classes in January.
