The young group from last year is back and more mature. After a disappointing loss to West Potomac last year to knock them out they appear to be on an upward trend. Teddy Poore is tremendous at goalie and has a chance to have a special season. Sophomore Josh Collins said, We want to beat West Potomac and we will win districts.”

The track team is looking to make up for the mistakes made during the indoor track season. one of the fastest high school sprinter in the country, senior Ibrahim Bangura should be back to 100 percent going into spring. The shot put team is looking very strong with Courtney Holford coming off of getting first place in states.

Boys Tennis

Albert “Big Al” Calamug is looking to have a big season after going undefeated last year. Short in stature, he doesn’t intimidate his opponents but he beats them with elite quickness and skill. He said, “I am really excited for this season. We have a lot of new players and I am excited to see my friends who I played with last year and come back and play again this year. I think we have a lot of potential and I am prepared to win.”

Boys Soccer

Junior Devin Kohout

Last spring the boys soccer team managed to knock off the top seeded team in their region and made it all the way to semi-finals of the regional tournament. Coach Peter Abed said, “This particular group has been playing together for a long time and they are very focused and clear about what they wanted to achieve this season… We have a group of guys who have put a ton of collective time, heart, and energy into this program.” One of their specific goals is returning to the state tournament. Senior Gab Hendi said, “I’m looking forward to just winning and getting some titles.”

The rugby team appears to be refreshed this year with many new players trying out the sport. They have a good mixture of power and quickness with senior Zyeiki Taylor-Carter powering around the pitch and junior Nicholas “Wink” Winkel being the hammer that can fight for that extra inch. Wink said, “This year we have had our greatest turnout of players and it looks like we will have a fantastic season.”

Junior Shane Tucker delivers the ball.

The baseball team looks for a fresh start after a disappointing season last year that had many ups and downs. They bring back their pitching rotation from last year who set records in ERA and strikeouts. The outfield is rebuilding however with two of their outfielders from last year graduating and it will be interesting to see what the new group can do. Junior second basemen Cade Linehan said, “After a season like last year we’re looking to really break the hump and win the district. We have a tougher schedule this year, but it is only going to make us more prepared later into the season. I like our chances going forward.

Girls Soccer

Last year was an incredible season for the girls lacrosse team. They were district runner up and made it to the State round of playoffs. Coach Allison Mullen said, “This is the further T.C. lacrosse had made it in close to a decade.” Their goals this year include making it back to the District Championship and coming out on the winning side.
