Edward Brown will be the head coach for the AC girls soccer team starting this spring season.

After the prior coaches Ally Wagner and Liz Blount retired, the school decided to hire Edward Brown to take over the team.

Brown’s victories as a player include every level of youth soccer: State, regional, and National championships to go along with high school championships. Brown has coached soccer for over four decades.

Brown grew up in Columbia, Maryland but he has lived all over the world once he graduated high school. After living and playing in Europe, South Africa, the West Coast and in the Midwest, he came back to the East Coast and will continue his coaching career at AC, living in Arlington with his wife and two daughters.

When asked about what made him decide to coach a high school team, Brown said, “I had a terrible high school soccer experience because my high school coach didn’t know a thing about soccer and wanted to be a cross country coach. […] There are a lot of soccer players that genuinely want to learn and are wanting to be challenged and inspired. And I love to coach.”

Senior Mia Mervis who is captain of the varsity team hopes for a great season with Coach Edward.

“He makes an effort to make practice challenging,” said Mervis.“He cares about the team and our goal to win games.”

Brown has been a soccer fan for a long time.

“It has all aspects of the mental, physical, and spiritual,” said Brown. “It is the one thing on earth that transcends all cultures and politics and religions.”

As the season is starting and the first games are coming up, Brown shares his admirations and expectations about the team.
“I have been ecstatic with the team so far in regards to attitude, effort, encouragement, and teamwork! In those aspects, this is the best girls team I have coached so far in high school” said Brown.
Although he expects a great season, he mainly wants to work on staying encouraged if things go bad at times. “We are working on practicing mental toughness,” said Brown.

Brown is excited to coach the team and says, “Where it takes us, we shall see.”
