Titan Robotic to Worlds

Alexandria City High School’s Robotics team made it to the FIRST Robotics Championships in Houston, Texas. The team was founded in 2015, and this will be their second championship trip, their first being the 2019 World Championship in Detroit, Michigan, where they qualified by winning the Engineering Inspiration award.

The Titan Robotics team, FRC 5587, is kicking off their 7th season with the FIRST Robotics Competition this year. The robotics team was founded in 2015 and is an official VHSL sport. Each season starts off in January when the official game for the season is announced. The January kickoff immediately leads into the build season that goes to March. Competition season starts in early March and goes into mid-April depending on how the team performs.

The State award-winning Alexandria City High School trivia team is back in action for another season. The VHSL sports team was created in the 2000s and has been coached by AP Literature and Credit Recovery teacher Matthew Zahn for the past seven years.

On Friday, October 29, it was announced that Thanksgiving break would be extended to a full week November 22 through 26, instead of just the 24 through the 26. It was cited that the break was lengthened to give students and staff a mental health break.

Justice Jones has been quite busy since graduating from T.C Williams 10 years ago. Jones attended the University of Nebraska Lincoln campus, where he started out in Broadcast Journalism, then switched majors to Advertising and Public Relations. During his time at the University of Nebraska, Jones interned with Adidas, worked for the campus newspaper, The Daily Nebraskan, started the official student section organization for the athletic department with friends, and did film production for the athletic department. Following graduation from Nebraska, Jones moved back to DC to work for a multi-company sales and marketing firm, then transferred to a tech company where he has been working for the past three years and is a Senior Account Executive.

Amazing opportunities await the Citywide Special Education students in Alexandria. Unlike most middle schoolers, special education students go directly from middle school to the T.C. King Street Campus, bypassing Minnie Howard altogether. They begin high school in the Career Preparation program, a program that prepares students with disabilities for life beyond their post-secondary education.

There is an end in sight to Virtual Plus+ learning for all Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS) students, unfortunately, it appears to be at the end of a very long tunnel. Through a series of meetings with the School Board, ACPS recently proposed their plan to return to in-person learning starting as early as November. However, the plan to return does not include every grade in ACPS at the beginning.
