The start of this school year brought many changes. The end of Lunch and Learn was certainly the one that garnered the largest reaction, but that wasn't the only new thing this year. Social Emotional Academic Learning (SEAL) lessons have also become a staple of ACHS’ 2022-2023 school year. These daily lessons focus on social and emotional health. They provide students with important information and allegedly assist them with internal growth. However, anyone who has taken part in these lessons knows they fail to meet that standard.

The start of the fourth quarter has brought along with it a slightly changed class schedule: instead of having the Titan PRIDE (Positive attitude, Responsibility, Integrity, Determination and Excellence) block with 3R and 4B teachers, ACHS students will instead spend this extra thirty minutes with their 1R and 2B teachers before switching to lunch or their next classes. Additionally, the PRIDE lessons have been replaced with activities from an entirely new curriculum.

Parents are going crazy for the Parentsquare app, which launched for ACPS users in August to stimulate communications between school administrators and parents. The app’s accessibility and fun features are what make the app a pillar of ACPS culture, parents say.

ACHS administration has planned a new schedule for lunch called Titan Lunch. This lunch schedule is different from the current A, B and C block lunch schedule and will go into effect on January 24, the first day of the third quarter. 

As hall sweeps begin to penalize tardy students, Essie Jones, the new PBIS events coordinator, plans to shift the narrative by rewarding students who are on time instead of punishing those who are not. Students who are present without being tardy for two straight weeks from Nov. 28 to Dec. 9 will have the opportunity to win a Regal movie ticket.
