In elementary schools, students are separated into “gifted” and “non-gifted” as early as third grade. In middle and high school, another level of leveling is added, with honors and AP classes separating students.

The “Yarn Club” at Alexandria City High School is a welcoming, comfortable club that focuses on creating a friendly community for anyone who is interested in learning or already knows how to knit and crochet. This club is led by Senior co-presidents Deanna Kosinski and Lilliana Escobar whose goal is to bond with new people over a shared interest in knitting and crocheting.

The annual Athletic Hall Of Fame ceremony took place in the Alexandria City High School auditorium on Saturday, October 8, 2022 at 2:00 pm. ACHS held this ceremony to welcome the new additions to the Hall Of Fame and celebrate their achievements. ACHS focuses on honoring and showcasing the extraordinary talents of athletes, teams, and coaches through the Athletic Hall Of Fame ceremony.

PRIDE Period Priorities

To start the 22-23 school year at Alexandria City High School, a PRIDE period has been introduced to students and faculty. PRIDE stands for preparation, respect, integrity, determination, and excellence. PRIDE period takes place during third or fourth period from 9:59 am to 10:34 am. During these thirty-six minutes, teachers present a slideshow to all students that review a new topic every day.

The “It’s Whatever You Make It Club” is a welcoming, judgment free club at Alexandria City High School where people of any background, sexuality, race, grade, and beliefs can come together to discuss topics of current events/issues, other club members' lives and experiences, and witty questions that make you think like; “do ghosts really exist?” The IWYMI club is led by Alyssa Laluces, Helen Russell, and Fatima Suliman whose goal is to create a safe and welcoming environment for all students at ACHS. 

Brightside By The Lumineers- Album Review

On January 14, 2022, The Lumineers came out with their newest album “BRIGHTSIDE.” This is their fourth studio album. The Lumineers is a band of two; Wesley Schultz (lead vocals, guitar) and Jeremiah Fraites (drums, percussion, piano). The Lumineers new album consists of nine new songs: BRIGHTSIDE, A.M. RADIO, WHERE WE ARE, BIRTHDAY, BIG SHOT, NEVER REALLY MINE, ROLLERCOASTER, REMINGTON, and REPRISE. In total, the album is 30 minutes long. 

Volleyball Senior Night

The celebration of the seniors on the Alexandria City High School volleyball team took place on Thursday, October 21, 2021, at the ACHS gymnasium. The nine class of 2022 seniors are Avery Peters, Jill Jones, Maura Munson, Lila Randall, Kaitlin Peters, Rachel Wilson, Tess Lundgren, Natalie Keough, Meaghan Wendling, and team manager Annie Tucker, together labeled “the nasty nine.” Every year the ACHS volleyball team works together to create an emotional and memorable send off for the seniors.

Volleyball District Champs, Again

On Thursday, October 28, 2021, the Alexandria City High School’s girls volleyball team won the District Championship match against West Potomac High School. The Titans beat the Wolverines in 3 thrilling sets. The first set ended with a score of 25-11, when the Titans pulled away from the Wolverines, convincingly.

The annual ceremony to welcome the newest additions to the Alexandria City High School (ACHS) Athletic Hall of Fame took place on Saturday, September 18th at 2:00 pm in the ACHS auditorium. ACHS aims to recognize and honor the talents of those individual athletes, students, and coaches, by showcasing them in the Athletic Hall of Fame. The ceremony was full of people who have contributed to the growth, integrity and encouragement of athletics at ACHS.
