On March 7, 2022, Lionel Richie won the Gershwin Prize for Popular Song. The Gershwin Prize for Popular Song acknowledges songwriters that have spent their life dedicated to their craft and celebrates songwriters' achievements in music. This award is truly a milestone artists can only dream of achieving. The previous winners include Paul McCartney, Stevie Wonder, Willie Nelson, and Carole King. This year, the Library of Congress awarded Lionel Richie the award to commemorate the accomplishments in his lifetime.

Five Alexandria City High School students participated in the All-Virginia Band & Orchestra Event on April 21-23 at Christopher Newport University (CNU). This event brings the state’s best student musicians together in one location to work with world-renowned conductors.

On March 18 and 19, ACHS choir was judged on their tone, diction, dynamics, and more. On a scale of one to five, they received the best score in every category and later accepted their well-earned award. They were competing against other high school areas, such as Fairfax, Falls Church, and more, the 77 combined student choir won a one in each category, showing off their talents.

Brightside By The Lumineers- Album Review

On January 14, 2022, The Lumineers came out with their newest album “BRIGHTSIDE.” This is their fourth studio album. The Lumineers is a band of two; Wesley Schultz (lead vocals, guitar) and Jeremiah Fraites (drums, percussion, piano). The Lumineers new album consists of nine new songs: BRIGHTSIDE, A.M. RADIO, WHERE WE ARE, BIRTHDAY, BIG SHOT, NEVER REALLY MINE, ROLLERCOASTER, REMINGTON, and REPRISE. In total, the album is 30 minutes long.
