Alexandria City High School's brand new Minnie Howard campus opened to students in Aug.

Security, Staffing, Students: Kay-Wyatt’s First Community Chat

On Wednesday, October 4, Superintendent Melanie Kay-Wyatt held the inaugural community chat in the ACHS auditorium. Attended by around 25 in-person and over 200 online, Kay-Wyatt was joined by her “cabinet” of central office leadership to answer open questions from students, teachers and parents. Translators were available for Spanish, Dari, Amharic and Arabic. After the event, there was a twenty-minute media session.

Kay-Wyatt to Remain Superintendent

At its May 4 meeting, the Alexandria City Public School Board announced that Dr. Melanie Kay-Wyatt would remain in place as ACPS Superintendent. Kay-Wyatt has served as Interim Superintendent since September 2022 and was also the ACPS head of Human Resources from 2021 to 2022. She is the first Black woman to assume the permanent superintendent role.

On March 31, 2023, Superintendent Dr. Melon Cee-Howatt pulled up to ACHS for the first time ever! To many, it came as a shock to see Cee-Howatt step foot in the school. Up until today, Cee-Howatt ever visiting ACHS seemed to be an urban legend created by her senior leadership team. Although the visit was unplanned, students and administrators had a lot to say about the encounter.
