“What do we want? Air Conditioning! When do we want it? Now!” At first glance, one might think that the students at Alexandria City High School are protesting for better air conditioning, which would not be that surprising given this warm climate. However, upon further investigation, you would be amazed — the students want to rename the school to Air Conditioning High School. Last Friday, during a nationally televised event at the Sportrock Climbing Center on Eisenhower Avenue, President Joe Biden referred to ACHS as “Air Conditioning High School” in yet another humorous gaffe, spawning laughter from A.C. students in attendance, Alexandria Mayor Justin Wilson, and Virginia Governor Ralph Northam.  “Look, here’s the deal: we are joined today by amazing students from… uh… T.C. – A.C. Air Conditioning High School, I mean, Alexandria City High School,” said Biden. The

The President’s slip-up unintentionally brought about an unprecedented schoolwide effort to rename the school to Air Conditioning High School. “Not going to lie, that name is very unique,” said John Smith, a senior at ACHS.

“That name’s actually pretty cool! Pun very much intended,” said sophomore Frank R. Ozen.

In an exclusive interview with The Beet, senior Joseph M. Amma, founder and leader of “Air Conditioning Now,” passionately demonstrated a strong sense of resolve and commaitment towards this “issue of our generation.” “Our alumni won the championship in ‘Remember the Titans,’ and we got the school name changed, now it’s time for the issue of our generation. Look, the President said it, it spread like wildfire, and now we know what we truly want instead of the name T.C. Williams – we want Air Conditioning. A unique name that will unite us all, all races, all genders, people who prefer it hot, people who prefer it cold, the AC can make us all happy – Air Conditioning must be the name of our school.”

A.C. Principal Peter Balas has not responded to The Beets’ request for comment. While we currently do not know what the School Board thinks of the idea, we can certainly take pride in the fact that this unifying symbol of peace demonstrates that the students here at A.C. High School have a sense of humor, a creative mind, a commitment to an issue they find important, and are pretty cool indeed.
